Yesterday's Leftovers For 4/12/10 (Special Edition): Turkey's Prime Minister Says Israel's Nuclear Situation Is Biggest Threat

Talk about going under the radar ladies and gentlemen.

In a week dominated by talks of nuclear proliferation from the main protagonists of the Cold War, this little nugget is shaping up to be an even bigger problem .

Turkey's Prime Minister has described Israel as the "main threat to peace" in the Middle East.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan was speaking during a visit to Paris.

Mr Erdogan was speaking to journalists before meeting the French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

"It is Israel that is the main threat to regional peace," he said.

"If a country uses disproportionate force, in Palestine, in Gaza, uses phosphorus bombs we are not going to say 'well done.'"

Now this is the thing that makes the actions of the Netanyahu Administration even more troubling than their questionable actions just several weeks ago with the Obama Administration.

For this to come from Erdogan, a man who has helped engineer Turker's contentious relationships with neighbors Greece and Armenia into a sign of reconciliations with those countries, as well as being one of the most underrated unifying figures in the world, really says something.

The countries have been allies in the past.

But earlier this week, the Turkish ambassador to Israel was recalled by Ankara, weeks after being humiliated in public by the Israeli deputy foreign minister.

Ambassador Oguz Celikkol was called into the Israeli foreign ministry in January and rebuked over a Turkish television series that showed Israeli intelligence agents kidnapping children.

Mr Celikkol was made to sit on a low chair while being lectured by Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon.

Mr Ayalon later apologised for the rebuke.

And what was the response from one current prominent leader in Israel to Erdogen, man who has won many awards for trying to foster peace, lead Turkey out of a recession, facilitated in aggrandizing democracy in that nation, gave social security to his seniors, and abolished the death penalty throughout its borders?

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has compared Mr Erdogan to Presidents Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi.

No matter here or there, it seems prominent Liebermans are real classless A-holes, aren't they?

Before showing up Joe Biden, Israel's Foreign minister in Ayalon had to humiliate one of Turkey's head officials with no thought of how inappropriate that was at the time.

It's one thing for the likes of Supreme leader Khamenei and his puppet Ahmadinejad to say harsh things about Israel. But it certainly says something when a reputable figure like Erdogen continues to voice his serious concern over Israel's behavior in such a public manner, something he has done since the Gaza conflict erupted.

The US favorite ally in the Middle East sure isn't making any friends right now in the region.
