Sports Thread LIVE #1 For 9/27/09: No Fun League, Week 3 Early Games Review
Photo from AP's Jim MoneMark Sanchez and the Jets, writing their tickets to the Super Bowl......to play the Giants, lol. Premature? With how they are playing, I beg to differ.
Well, what another week of wild 1PM games, especially pertaining to two NFC North teams getting big home wins.
What more can you say about Brett Favre. I and many others have hammered him and Brad Childress relentlessly for basically bringing dow the Vikings season to his play. And so far, after three games, we have egg on our face, especially I. Favre's amazing heroics came in the Vikings dramatic 27-24 victory of a 49ers team on the verge of going 3-0. Instead, it is the Purple People Eaters.
Favre's touchdown pass to Greg Lewis with 2 seconds left brought Vikings fans and players to sheer jubilation, and left Niners supporters and participants in utter anguish. The headlines will leap all praise on Favre, and deservedly so. This is the type of late heroics that could put the Vikings over the top indeed. And it will justify a head coach who almost caused a complete schism in the locker for this move.
Certainly not a schism anymore.
But that isn't the case with one Washington Redskins team, as they become the outfit that mercilessly ends the Detroit Lions dreadful 19 game losing stream dating back to the 2007 season. The 19-14 win at Ford Field for Detroit will have headlines like "FINALLY" and "Miracles do happen" be in the newspapers in the morning, as Matthew Stafford made more plays than Jason Campbell did ( boy, Campbell really has been pathetic this year) to end the misery of that Motor City franchise and heap a lot of heat on Redskins coach Jim Zorn.
The Patriots never lose back to back is the saying, and it is so true, as the Pats defeat the talented Falcons 26-10 in Foxboro today. The Giants, continued to how why they are one of, if not, THEE elite of the National Football League with a dominating 24-0 win over hapless Tampa Bay.
Jacksonville scored a crucial win over Houston to get their first "W" season in 31-24. Game bay dominated powerless St.Louis 36-17. The Jets improved to 3-0, while the titans go 0-3, as green green in their throwbacks defeated the Titans in their Oilers oldies 24-17 at the Meadowlands. Once again, Tennessee losing another close game, and will have to dig out a whole here. They have now lost as many games this season as they did all of last regular season.
And, oh, Michael Vick, he returned today. That is how much news was brought today in the league that after kickoff, his story got pushed to the backpages outside of Philly and maybe there too). Kevin Kolb did the job as the Eagles man handled Kansas City 34-14.
That's all the early games games this weekend, more to come with the late games.
Yes, they have every right to celebrate for the first time in a long, LONG time
