Music Thread #1 For 12/15/09: Alicia Keys And Robin Thicke Headlines This Week's Release
Alicia Keys and Robin Thicke, looking for a bounce back after subpar sales on his last album, are the big notable releases today.
It will be interesting to see how big Alicia Keys' totals will be. She has been everywhere this fall, and with this CD being released in the holiday season, it is an album that I would be surprised if it doesn't bring her at least 300,000 in week one. And remember, Keys sold a staggering 742,000 albums the first week for "As I Am", as her first week sales have gone up and up since her great "Songs In A Minor" debut in 2001.
If she were to duplicate or better that total, she would surpass Susan Boyle's remarkable debut numbers as top debut of the week on the charts.
"The Element Of Freedom" two singles out ("Doesn't Mean Anything" and "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart") have been overshadowed by "Empire State Of Mind" big time success. But even if those singles aren't better to me than "No One" off "As I Am", it will be a total shock of Keys doesn't produce big numbers, even if the album isn't an all time classic.
Thicke looks to bounce back from the substandard "Evolution of Robin Thicke" release from last year that I'm not sure eclipsed the "gold" mark of half a million. The 4th album, "Sex Therapy", has its lead single titled, well, "Sex Therapy." It is produced by Polow Da Don.
The other notable releases are Phil Vassar's "Traveling Circus", Animal Collective "Fall Be Kind", Tim Cohen's "Laugh Tracks", and Shiny Toy Guns "Girls Le Disko."
Will try, TRY my hardest, to give you a full review on some of these CD's later in the week.
