Yesterday's Leftovers For 2/24/10: Why Do House Republicans Hate Native Hawaiians

You would think that House Republicans would have no problems with giving Native Hawaiians the same respect that Native Alaskians and Native Americans (Sports team's monikers withstanding) receive? Simple issue, simple solution, no need to make it partisan at all.

But these House Republicans, please.

The Akaka Bill, as it is nicknamed after the Hawaii Rep. Daniel Akaka authored the bill, has been demonized unsurprisingly by the nutcase wing. The bill clearly shows that Native Hawaiians are not recognized as Native Americans, preventing Native Hawaiians from opening up casinos.

However, Republicans always have some sort of a reading comprehension program:
Republicans, on the other hand, are fiercely opposed to the Akaka bill. They argue that it actually does recognize Native Hawaiians as an Indian tribe – something they say Congress does not have the power to do. Congressional Republicans believe that Native Hawaiians are a racial group instead and that the Akaka bill would “confer upon them racially exclusive benefits, discriminating against Hawaiian residents of other races.” Adding:
H.R. 2314 could lead to a racial balkanization in Hawaii and elsewhere, providing for different codes of law to apply to people of different races who live and function as part of one currently homogenous community.
Real classy, aren't they?

You would think that Native Hawaiians did something awful to these people and that revenge was needed to be given back to them. Maybe it's because President Obama showed that he was born, maybe it's due to Hawaii being a foreign land in general for them. Either way, they really don't like Native Hawaiians all that much.

And with the exception of six people, they voted exactly that way, as the bill passed the House for a third time in its lifespan by a 245 to 164 vote.

Now why couldn't the rest of those 160 Republicans vote like Cao, Cole, Ehlers, Jones, Tim Murphy and Alaska's Don Young (who would be a total hypocrite if he voted against something that his state's natives have)?

Because the rest of them are complete bigots showing how insane they are yet again.

But don't worry, because it turned out to actually be a bipartisan vote on the other side as well. That was possible thanks to four Democrats joining their bigots on the right in full unison. Congratulations House figures Bright, Giffords, Himes and McMahon for joining in on choosing to deny Native Hawaiians the respect they seek.

Will be interesting if any Senate Democrats join in the "Hate Hawaii fun", as the Akaka Bill hopes the third time is the charm for its passage in the big chamber.

Other Leftovers include:
Obama endorsed Ayers, the right will be angry..........though it is not Bill.

Let's hope Jan Schakowshy's bill works.

And that dude is really an A-hole.
