Sports Thread #1 For 9/13/09: No Fun League, Week 1: Early Game Review
Well, it was a great opening barrage of games, as young quarterbacks shine, Adrian Peterson stars his MVP campaign in style, and a miraculous finish to the Broncos-Bengals game. What a way for the Matt Sanchez era to begin. A dominant 24-7 Jets win over the Texans, who looked terrible today offensively. But Darrell Revis shoutdown Andre Johnson, and Kris Jenkins led a Jets defense without Calvin Pace to harass Matt Schaub all day.
Adrian Peterson was just a beast day, as the Brett Favre era started well today for the Vikings in their 34-20 win over the Browns, who will have a long season. To his credit through, Brady Quinn wasn't bad, going 21 for 35 for 205 yards and a touchdown.
Long day for Chad Pennington and the Dolphins, as the Falcons defense handled their business in a 19-7 win.
Joe Flacco showed no signs of a sophomore slump, making big plays late including a touchdown throw to Mark Clayton with the game tied, as the Ravens defeated a game Chiefs team 38-24.
Despite concern after the game from Donovin McNabb whip his cracked ribs, the Eagles destroyed the Panthers in NC today in 38-10 fashion.
Indianapolis had to have a hard earned win over division rival Jacksonville today, winning 14-12 in Indy.
Drew Brees shows why he is arguably the best quarterback in the NFC, throwing for six touchdowns in 45-27 shoutout with the Lions. Matt Stafford had a rough debut, throwing three interceptions.
Tony Romo was marvelous today, throwing three touchdowns in the Cowboys 34-21 win at Tampa Bay.
And, in the play of the day, and miracle probably of the season already,Brandon Stokley, in his only catch of the day, ran a deflected touchdown 87 yards to give the Broncos a stunning 12-7 win over a Bengals side that was obviously dejected after that game. Just watch it here.
Unbelievable.
The review of the late games to come.
