The Break For 6/5/10: Toronto Warnings In Parts Of Illinois

Several tornadoes rage through central Illinois on Saturday causing major damage, officials said. There was no immediate word on casualties.

The first tornado was spotted around 8:30 p.m. CDT near Elmwood, an unincorporated community west of Peoria in central Illinois. “National Weather Service meteorologists and storm spotters were tracking a large and extremely dangerous wedge tornado,” the agency said.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued then rare tornado emergency for the Peoria metro area. The tornado was spotted four miles northwest of the Peoria airport.
