11/21/08-TWD's Agenda For Friday: Cabinet Leaks, Leaks, Leaks; Inner Strength Gospel Concert

Relief.
Hillary Rodham Clinton has decided to give up her Senate seat and accept the position of secretary of state, making her the public face around the world for the administration of the man who beat her for the Democratic presidential nomination, two confidants said Friday.

Mrs. Clinton came to her decision after additional discussion with President-elect Barack Obama about the nature of her role and his plans for foreign policy, said one of the confidants, who insisted on anonymity to discuss the situation. Mr. Obama’s office told reporters Thursday that the nomination is “on track” but Clinton associates only confirmed Friday afternoon that she has decided.

“She’s ready,” said the confidant. Mrs. Clinton was reassured after talking again with Mr. Obama because their first meeting in Chicago last week “was so general,” the confidant said. The purpose of the follow-up talk, he added, was not to extract particular concessions but “just getting comfortable” with the idea of working together.

So no more new or updated reports about this on the television networks. Thank God!

This is the American media, however. They are already on the next story that they will gladly throw down not only our throats, but our esophagi and small intestines as well.

But wait, there is more leak information.

Tim Geither, who I really didn't know a thing about today, and who most of you were in the unfamiliar realm with him as well, looks poised to be the next Treasury Secretary:
Barring last minute changes, the nominee for Treasury Secretary will be NY Fed President Tim Geithner -- a career Treasury official under both Bob Rubin and Larry Summers -- who actually had worked at the Treasury in three administrations under five Secretaries -- going back to 1988.

Geithner has been a key player in the current economic crisis -- helping Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and his team manage the wall street bailout.

When reading that sentence, which is in bold for its importance, it gives a few alarming vibes that this guy has been in the midst of helping Paulson go against his word of buying those troubled assets from the banks in September's bailout deal. And I have certainly been one to slam Paulson with every opportunity arises itself of being able to do just that.

But as I said before, I don't know (and neither do must outside of the financial world) know a thing about Geither. So we shall see the opinions and rational thoughts on that pick unfold.

Finally, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson looks to also find himself a spot in the Obama Administration. His likely role as it looks: Secretary of Commerce.
The rumors of Richardson as the next head of the Commerce Department bring to a close a wild week in the transition of Obama from candidate to president. In the last seven days, a series of leading Cabinet picks have been revealed including Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to Homeland Security, former South Dakota Sen. Tom Daschle to Health and Human Services, Eric Holder to Justice and, last, but certainly not least, Clinton to State.

It certainly was. And it will continue to be in the upcoming weeks.

And also, just to throw this out, since this is as much a "personal blog" as it is a legitimate public website, The Gospel Choir that I am apart of at Boston University is having our Fall Concert tonight on our campus. Here's the information.
