"The Field" Explains The Hillary For Secretary of State Rumors In One Word: Pettiness
First, the story breaking on "Countdown" last night, as Keith Olbermann has to acknowledge Andrea Mitchell's report for "The good of network harmony."
With that out of the way, here is what this all about.
Pettiness.
Yup, pettiness is what this is all about, the rumors of Hillary Clinton being Barack Obama's Secretary of State arising yesterday. All because of damn pettiness.
Like this country, in this crucial and urgent of times, needs this? Thankfully, it isn't really coming from Hillary herself.
I'll let The Field explain in his excellent "post" over at the Kos (or over at his own blog):
Yes, one could say that Hillary (and Bill) could stop this herself (or themselves), and maybe she should. Either way, it says something of the childish nature still burning fully deep inside the minds of some individuals, who would place petty things like this over what this country needs right now.
(Funny enough, this is the first time that I have ever used Hillary Clinton as a tag on The Whole Delivery. Remember, this site really didn't start until after the Democratic National Convention, and "post tagging" only started a few weeks after. Go figure.)

The whole thing is a media freak show being served up by members of the Clinton factions in the Democratic party and obliged by a national media (some of them also Clinton noisemakers) in search of a story. The speculation is not because Senator Clinton wants the job, but because her people so desperately want to muddy the waters and throw up a roadblock to either New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson or Massachusetts Senator John Kerry - two of the leading contenders - serving in the post, whom they consider turncoats for having endorsed Obama vs. Clinton earlier this year.Yup, they are desperate to make Kerry and especially Richardson pay for what they did earlier this year. And despite this, The Field points out that Bill Clinton's Global Initiative really blocks his wife from getting this position:
The real issue here is that the conflict of interest created by the Clinton Global Initiative rules out Senator Clinton for Secretary of State. The Obama job application form is very specific about unearthing potential conflicts by spouses and "family members."
Does anybody really believe that Obama will say to all his job applicants that there's a double standard, one set of requirements for them and another for the Clintons?
The Obama administration-in-waiting has now pushed back a little bit against the freak show:Senior officials with President-elect Barack Obama's transition team said late Thursday that Sen. Hillary Clinton would be an asset to the new administration, but declined to confirm reports she was under consideration for secretary of state.
