Sports Saturday Thread #2 For 3/20/10: Rock Flop Jayhawk
If you told Ali Farokhmanseh and Jordan Eglseder right now that they created massive genocide of brackets across America, they'll laugh at how they accomplished that task.
Along with those two and the Koch brothers effort, Northern Iowa was able to make everyone go crazy in a good or bad way across America, as they knocked off tournament favorites Kansas 69-67 in a stunner.
Farokhmanseh will live in Jayhawk fans infamy with his dagger perimeter shooting and clutch play all day, as the Panthers #5 outplayed Sherron Collins the entire contest to lead the Panthers into the Sweet 16.
But criticism will definitely go at the hands of Kansas coach Bill Self, who's team did not implement the press defense early enough in this contest. The 2008 champions only lead for 40 seconds and seemed to come second fiddle for every loose rebound, leading to constant second chance opportunities that the Missouri Valley champions made them pay for.
And this win, along with Ohio's conquering of Georgetown on Thursday, puts the Midwest Top bracket in some chaos. Based on form, Northern Iowa should be favorite to beat Maryland or Michigan State.
Buckeye fans everywhere should be happy, as they are now the clear favorites to advance back to Indianapolis. But with how this tournament is, being the favorite can be a very, very dangerous thing.
