The 1st Thread/The S- Thread For 11/28/12: Another Story That Must Be Told

Most of the modern establishment media, whether in sports or in news in general, never mentioned Marvin Miller in his last years. In fact, many baseball players, from new phenoms like Mike Trout and Bryce Halper to Yankees legends like Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, probably don't even know who Marvin Miller was. And that really is another disgrace on our American and global society.

Miller was quite frankly one of the exemplary figures in his time on Earth, and the fact that he and his accomplishments were largely hidden to both the general sports fan and the casual viewers of sports in America is quite alarming.

His overall, fundamental union characteristics and empowerment for downtrodden figures with no voices (in this instance, the athlete of the middle 20th century before they became solid six figure,  affluent figures) is something the establishment in baseball has forever tried its hardest for people not to know about.

But to be honest, it was more than the powerful proprietors in baseball who didn't want Miller's impact and legacy to be told.  Many affluent bosses everywhere in America (and even globally) loathe stories like Miller's getting out because it gives workers who feel they are getting badly mistreated the belief that they can stand up for their rights at any time.

Owners don't want fans to know about people like Marvin Miller, because it would make fans favor the players more in strikes and lockouts by understanding what is truly going on beyond the game and behind the scenes of how sports and top level businesses operates. It's a direct reason why Miller, despite his massive impact on not only the sport of baseball but sports in general, is still not in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

But Marvin Miller is in the Hall of Fame of workers rights throughout the world, with none of his biggest adversaries being able to stop that. And his story, no matter how many of those powerful, petty adversaries don't want it to be told, will gladly be told.

(For more on Miller, this great interview he had with Davie Z is here.)
