The 1st Thread For 9/17/10: Jon Stewart Falls Victim Again To False Equivalency

Occasionally, he can produce some real "D-Oh" moments:
Jon Stewart announced his much-awaited “big announcement” on Thursday’s edition of his late-night program, “The Daily Show.” He plans to stage a rally in Washington to counter what he identified as extremists on either side of the political spectrum.

It gets worse when you read it:
He later labeled it a “Million Moderate March.” The purpose, he said, is to counter what he called a minority of 15 percent or 20 percent of the country that has dominated the national political discussion with extreme rhetoric. He tarred both parties with that charge, mentioning both the attacks on the right against President Obama for being everything from a socialist to un-American and on the left against former President Bush for being a war criminal.
Well, I guess John Yoo's out maneuvering of him probably has led him to think that our previous President didn't illegally go into Iraq as well as give full thumbs up for indefinite torture on some innocent individuals. Because far as I know, those things actually make you, OH MY, a war criminal!

Sometimes people put so much weigh on this man's shoulders as doing the job that our pathetic profession won't do, and it's refreshing to see how he continues to make us laugh at the insanity. But just like everyone else, especially a big time late night comedian, Stewart has his limitations and shaky moments.

It's just as a shame though that a guy as smart and not inclined to fall into the cliche stereotypes of politics like Stewart still is a major sucker for the false equivalency of "both sides do it."
