Music Thread #1 for 10/7/08- Vibe's Pathetic Attempt to Sale Magazines/Get Online Traffic
(With apologizes to all music fans of the site, I haven't been able to do a music news thread in a few days. Thankfully, that short hiatus has ended.)

So a rapper who hasn't made an album in several years is the "best rapper alive"? It's another pathetic attempt by Vibe magazine to sell magazines covers and create fake controversy that gets overblown into discussion like this. See, Vibe doesn't mind being called out for its ridiculous choice, because it gives them attention for their ridiculous choice. Heck, I'm bestow the sort of criticism not affecting them in a heavily damaging way right now.
But if their editors and their writers believe that Eminem is truly at the pinnacle of this list, then they are absolutely lying to our faces. It is dishonest analysis in my mind, especially when you consider how dormant he has been in the game in terms of new material (and how he is virtually a "shock" rapper who mixes being angry, funny, and mellow together) for the last few years (he hasn't released album since 2005). Or, it is just more shockingly atrocious reporting about how music journalists waste all their wonderful resources by not getting just how absurd some of the things they write.
Update: I take some of the irritation I've received from viewing this back. Because it seems that Vibe reportedly had the fans vote for this, not their "pundits" come together and think of this:
But even if some horribly, misinformed fans voted on this, what is the purpose of this magazine? Not journalism, but selling publications and getting traffic. That's all. This poll is the today's daily shame to hip-hop, and even more difficult to see with 20/20 hindsight was this sad tidbit.
Just the insult of reading that piece of information shows how embarrassing the "mainstream" heads are. And they are located in the "critical middle" of the true, knowledge and rational music fans out there, leading to labels targeting those who really don't now fully about what hey are talking about. This is not a slam on Eminem at all, and if anybody thanks so, I suggest you re-read this post again, and again, and again.
It is just analyzing how inane this voting poll was from Vibe, and how it has sullied the game (not the artist, but the entire genre again). Vibe won't be disappointed at the "fans" (or themselves) however. They have their magazines and their websites to think about instead. Especially with how they easily make money off of them.

When VIBE decided to let the people decide The Best Rapper Alive, we just wanted to have a little fun. But with a final tally exceeding 920,000 votes, it’s safe to say we touched a nerve. Since the competition began on July 21, the NCAA tournament – style bracket sparked bedlam. T.I.? Nas? Joe Budden? Rick Ross? Decisions had to be – and were – made.
But even if some horribly, misinformed fans voted on this, what is the purpose of this magazine? Not journalism, but selling publications and getting traffic. That's all. This poll is the today's daily shame to hip-hop, and even more difficult to see with 20/20 hindsight was this sad tidbit.
n the early rounds there were few upsets, as most of the higher-seeded competitors triumphed. Until the final eight MCs remained, it looked as though all four No. 1 seeds – Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and Andre 3000 – would land in the final four. But then, the bark of underdogs could be heard in the distance.
The lesser of the two upsets took place in the Big Punisher bracket. Andre was defeated by No. 3 seed The Game, just as his album, LAX (Geffen), was impacting nationwide.
